Over the years, I’ve created many workshops rooted in the exploration of specific inspiration...
From improv inspired by birds and paintings to an immersive course on developing your own motifs, each one has guided participants on unique creative journeys.
When I create, I don’t usually plan which shapes I’ll work with. I simply begin cutting, and a path reveals itself along the way.
That said, I love the idea of having a launching point for my creative process. For example, I took a small element from my very first art quilt, “Life in the City,” and used it as inspiration for my next piece, “Sunset Cinema.”
I do have certain go-to shapes I naturally gravitate toward, as we all do, and I also enjoy mixing things up to expand my creative repertoire. When I had the idea to create a workshop “Inspired by Birds,” it came from my love of birds and a desire to challenge myself with new shapes and forms.
Now, I’ve decided to bring all of these ideas together into one brand-new workshop!
And the best part? This will be a shared experience, where everyone brings their own ideas and influences to the table. Together, we’ll uncover patterns and shapes to riff off of, creating a dynamic and supportive space for exploration and growth.

What Makes This Course Different
Flexible Exploration
This isn’t about recreating something you’ve seen. It’s about breaking free from literal forms and finding the elements that call to you. Using motifs as a launching point, you’ll develop shapes and forms that are distinctly your own.
This workshop is designed for fiber artists who want to explore inspiration in a whole new way, developing personal motifs and deepening their creative practice. If you've been longing to uncover, expand and express your true artistic voice and make work that feels genuinely you, this course will guide you every step of the way.
You will be guided to:
- Look deeper at the world around you and find inspiration everywhere.
- Develop your own signature motifs that appear throughout your work.
- Improvise with freedom while staying true to your artistic vision.
- Expand your creative repertoire and plant seeds for your future practice.
I’m a visual learner and instructor, and I will share how I expand an idea that began as a spark of inspiration—from something as simple as a photo of a bird. This is just the starting point, but it opens the door to countless creative possibilities of the options available. To demonstrate this process, I’ll be using Procreate, a tool I find invaluable for experimentation and discovery. While I don’t usually begin my improvisational designs directly within the app, it serves as a powerful resource for exploring and refining my concepts.
By the end of this workshop, your art will not only reflect the shapes and lines that inspire you but also reveal the unique essence of your creative voice.

If you love to piece, you may do that... If you love to fuse, it is absolutely welcome in this workshop!
It is important that you create and compose your work using a technique you are comfortable with. The objective is to focus on design.
